The Benefits of Learning Qigong

Qigong has benefits that fall into three categories:

The Generic Benefits are those which each and every Qigong practice will improve. These involve whole body systems such as cardio-vascular, lymphatic, nervous and musculo-skeletal systems as well as the pulmonary and digestive systems which are a bit more localized.

The Specific Benefits are those for which the particular practice was developed to achieve. For example: one practice may be focused on improving endurance while another may be focused on improving balance. Both will provide the Generic Benefits as well. This means that any Qigong practice will have a beneficial effect on overall health, fitness and well-being, regardless of the specific purpose for which the practice was developed.

As for Individual Benefits: Qigong is an internal system. Although Qigong has significant benefits for the internal organs, the meaning of "internal" as used here means that the practitioner learns to focus their intent "internally" so that the practice generates the desired result. Once the teacher guides the student in the way to focus their intent, the benefits increase dramatically. Thus the Generic, Specific and Individual benefits are achieved simultaneously.

The ultimate goal of Qigong is to bring the individual into the balanced harmony between their spirit and their physical body. The balance between those two aspects is what we see as life. When the life is unbalanced, the person is vulnerable to various ailments, and injuries. When the life is balanced and harmonious, the person is resistant to these things, illnesses become brief and mild, injuries are lessened in severity and time needed to heal, and the person becomes free to experience life more abundantly.
